MATCH DAY 5 – Nice

Italy v Uruguay

Il pleut! In fact il pleut a seaux! I suppose it had to happen at some point, but we had our first wet match, or at least it would have been, had we not been under cover. Stade de Nice may be a pain to get to and from, however it’s designed, so that all spectators stay dry, result!

We had relocated on the Tuesday from one lovely house in Saint-Paul-de-Vence to an equally lovely house in Le Rouret (see earlier post for detail) and joined the Holloway clan (or 3/4s of it) for a couple of days, taking in the Italy v Uruguay game while we were together.

It was nice to return to watching a game where I didn’t really care who won, as long as we all had a nice time – and we did. Although it started off in the rain, it soon dried up and it was never cold. My new day-glo, smiley-face rain poncho had an outing and proved itself to be invaluable in a downpour and easy to pack away afterwards.

Italy won, it wasn’t a great match, but we all had a good time.

Still smiling despite the rain

Now we bid goodbye to friends and the South of France and start the trip back north. We are in Arles for a couple of nights and then it’s on to Carcassonne, when the Not-so-Small Boys & their lovely girls arrive.
