It’s official – the nest is empty and they both have their own nests now

We’ve had a couple of false starts & frankly COVID didn’t help, but I think we can safely say that both our chicks (the Not-so-small Boys) have fledged. The Smallest Boy is now the proud owner of a delightful 2-up & 2-down mews house in Battersea, that he is getting to grips with. The first thing he did was buy a television the size of a small car, before realising it was too heavy to attach to any of the interior walls (it now has a very nice stand) and the second thing he did was disappear to watch a Chelsea FC home game with a client while his parents (that’ll be Catering & me) constructed his IKEA furniture. I know – it’s entirely our own fault, but frankly it’s easier to construct furniture without him than with his input and in fairness to him, he has since then purchased a sofa (blue velvet – won’t show the dust at all) and put up some pictures all by himself. Couldn’t help but smile at the joy of having his own Christmas tree gave him.

No1 Son meanwhile has returned from Australia and after a period of he & Amy living with us while they renovated the flat, they moved back to London. However they are not really City dwellers and so they have decided to sell the flat & relocate to Wallingford very soon. All exciting stuff, particularly as the house they are buying has 3 bedrooms, so more of their stuff can exit the Outhouse for good. I have already colonised some wardrobe space for my shoes & boots, but one could always do with more. I am particularly adept at expanding to fill a vacuum.

They’re back

So here we are, just the 2 of us (well unless you count Lennox the goldfish) and it’s bliss. I am not bereft (I am aware this probably means I am a terrible mother). I will admit to occasionally missing them and the chaos that was our family’s life when they were both at home but by and large it’s been a largely positive experience, particularly as I know they are both entering the next stage in their lives and watching with a not inconsiderable amount of excitement and pride. I can’t wait to see what they do next.
