The pubs re-opened a number of weeks ago, but as yet I haven’t been tempted back, preferring to keep the Friday Night Field Drinks going instead.
When we started the initiative with the Ashworths, we had a lovely view of the river and Greenlands from our hillside vantage point, but the maize has grown and so now we have to make do with the field and the sky.
We’ve sat out in sunshine and rain – only once missing the drinks, which was more down to poor diary management (mentioning no names – Dave!) than horrid weather.
Some of our kids sometimes join us, but it’s usually just the four of us having a few drinks and catching up on the week we’ve had. Again lots of laughs and happy memories despite, or is it because of the pandemic? We would not have started FNFD but for the restrictions placed upon us and now it’s one of the favourite parts of my week.
I will miss it this week due to a trip to Norfolk to see the Oldies (looking forward to hugging my Mum & Dad) but I’ll be back at 6pm sharp the following week, maybe the maize will be gone by then?
