Week Two, Day One – Lock Down
So I head into my second week of working from home and today passes quite quickly. The morning is largely taken up with virtual meetings and catch-ups and the afternoon is an frenzy of admin and Inbox tidying (I have a small wager with a colleague that I will have it down to 100 by the time we return to the office – only 13,000 to go). I am trying to vary my lunchtime wander, so I headed off in a different direction and came back through the fields of new lambs, how can it all look so idyllic and yet be so chaotic.
There are a number of things I have noticed since working from home, already being in the house at the close of the working day means you have so much more time to do stuff. So tonight I made a chocolate cake, as you do! It went down really well, though to be honest the men in the Spicer household are not what you’d call a discerning bunch. Cake is cake and disappears quite quickly. It also allowed me to ignore the ironing pile for another evening.
I sat down to watch the Govt press conference and it would appear we are on lock-down for the foreseeable future. Well that has put the cat amongst the pigeons, just as you get used to one set of circumstances, they spring another set of rules on you (thank goodness I had my haircut at the weekend). Went to bed more than a little subdued at the prospect of life with just Nick & Robert. Mental note to self, virtual social meeting apps need to be explored.
Day Two – life post Lock-down
It’s our first ASEO team meeting since we all left the office a week ago, and the world has turned upside down since then. A couple of teething problems, but we all turned up at roughly the same time and place. The University is helping locally where it can, letting NHS staff use our car parks and some of our accommodation. Henley Royal Regatta is the latest social event to be cancelled and ironically Alex’s membership for Stewards had come through this year. He was so delighted, it is a shame, but he will enjoy it all the more next year.
I decided to take my lunchtime wander along the river today to look at the Regatta course that won’t be this year. Another glorious day, no lambs but my usual stop to say hello to my angel at Remenham Church.
I cracked House Party and had a lovely hour chatting with the Ladies Wot Lunch. A much needed break from inside the house. Ironing pile now under control.
Day Three – Another busy day
My day flew by, after a small bout of skipping first thing (don’t worry it won’t last), I settled in to a series of meetings and felt I had achieved quite a lot despite the strange time we find ourselves living in. The wander at lunchtime was more of a march, as I had less time to spare, so an uphill dash and then onto the village shop for milk and bread and back via the woods got me over the 3 mile mark. It also gave me a new view of the village, I am trying for a different walk each day of the week, variety is the spice of life and we’re not getting much of it at the moment.
