Wednesday
Those of you who know me well, will know that I like a plan, and I find it extremely gratifying when a plan comes together. Catering and I went on a day-trip to Arcachon 2 years ago, when we were in Bordeaux for a week, and we loved it, so much so that I factored a return into the RWC Tour of France. On that first trip we took the ferry across Arcachon Bay to Cap Ferret where we had a really gorgeous time and lunch. I was determined to revisit Cap Ferret and the place where we had lunch in L’Herbe, but this time taking others with us, to share the fun. As the time approached I was more than a little nervous that it wouldn’t live up to my recollections and expectations, but I really needn’t have worried, once again it was FAB-U-LOUS!
10 people and their bikes turned up for the 10.30am ferry – fortunately we had pre-booked as the queue was impressive, particularly given it wasn’t high season. Bikes & bodies were loaded on board and it was only then that I realised I was torturing a couple of our party, who definitely don’t like boats
At least 2 of this group are putting on a brave face, as they are not fans of a sea crossing – can you guess who?
But once we got to the other side it was well worth the trip – quiet roads, seaside views and a very civilised coffee stop in an Italian restaurant, which wasn’t quite ready for customers, but took pity on us and made 8 Lattes, 1 Americano and a Cappuccino – bless them.
It’s coffee, not Red Bull, that gives the Girls wings (& smiles)
After a gentle tour of the Cap Ferret peninsula, we headed off for lunch in L’Herbe, a 45 minute cycle away, via a fantastic, woodland cycle path. We laughed all the way there, between dodging the large pine cone grenades the boys decided to start throwing at one another (I mean – really?), and then it was just as I remembered it, and, as with everything, better with friends.
