Arcachon

Sunday

Friends arrived on Sunday afternoon, by which time we’d explored the whole house (delighted all the rooms were roughly the same size, so no one would be stuck with the box room) and filled the fridge with food & booze.

Hello House! Ready for guests?

Catering taxied folk from the station to the house and after they’d unpacked I poured the drinks. We may have gone off a little quickly on the booze front, possibly a bit over excited that the plan had finally come together and everyone had arrived both at the right place and at the right time. We decided to revisit the Italian restaurant Catering & I had frequented the night before, as it was a known quantity and they would also take a booking for a table of 10.

Guests arrived bearing Rebellion

Here come the Girls! Glass of fizz anyone?

We hadn’t examined or allocated the bikes, so we walked into the centre of town and then taxi shuttled back afterwards. Having peaked quite early in the evening, there was a noticeable drop in the energy levels post pizza. Perhaps tomorrow we need to pace ourselves.

Monday

A slowish start for some, but an advanced party set out in search of breakfast. I was a little disappointed that the 1st boulangerie was shut (though not at all surprised, as I have form in that particular department and it was a Monday) but we quickly found an alternative and immediately bought her out of croissant and pain au chocolat and an interesting looking plaity thing that Dave like the look of. The man behind us in the queue looked a little fed up but made do with a baguette.

After a lazy breakfast and the arrival of the last electric bike, we set about allocating bikes and exploring the area, heading for the seafront and somewhere called Le Bikini. A certain amount of faffing later we finally set off, some people delighted with their method of transportation, others less so.

The beach was a 10 minute pedal and was just amazing.

Some cycled along the very lovely cycle path into town, a couple downed tools and took to the beach where we found them on our return basking very happily in the gorgeous sunshine. Did I mention the perfect weather 26 – 30 degrees, but cooler overnight, so not unbearable for sleeping. We swam (well some of them did), played bat/ball and generally mooched about for a couple of hours before returning to Le Bikini for a cheeky beer before heading home.

Le Bikini – great view, shall we come back for dinner? Let me see if they’ve got a table for 10

Remind me – Avez-vous une table pour 10 personnes ? A huit heures? Actually if you have a table for 10 you can tell us when to arrive.

After an afternoon by the pool and lunch, we returned by bike for dinner and had another lovely evening.

Thank you Le Bikini for a lovely evening – I fear one of us may not be entirely sober

Happy Days
