I have enjoyed the walking and cycling that I took up when the gyms were closed and I had pretty much decided that I would not be going back to the gym – saving myself (or rather saving Robert, as my gym membership is my Christmas present each year) a chunk of money each month. I thought I would finish up this year’s membership and then leave it be. That was the theory however, the gym’s re-opening coincided with the last wave of really hot weather at the beginning of August and I was trying to work myself up to a bike ride in 80 degrees of heat, when it struck me that I could instead go and use an air conditioned gym! So I rang and booked a session and turned up to a cool, calm and completely empty gym. The weather then went from hot to wet and windy, neither of which is conducive to venturing outdoors to exercise ( I am the absolute definition of a fair weather girl) and so I have been back to the gym or the pool pretty much every day since. The regularity of my visits dramatically reduces the cost per use, and so I have finally managed to justify the cost. So, in the trend of the moment, I have U-turned. While I am working from home and using the gym or pool almost every day, I think the membership can stay,
